Stokely Carmichael “Kwame Ture” (June 29, 1941 –  November 15, 1998)
Carmichael was the prominent leader of The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) during the late 1960’s. SNCC focused on increasing voter registration among African-Americans and fighting for equal rights via “sit-ins” and marches. He popularized the phrase, “Black Power" with a speech he gave of the same name. Carmichael was affiliated with major people and organizations during the Civil Rights Movement such as Martin Luther King, Jr. and The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense.
